Secret ASCII art

Otro gran ejemplo de cómo ven las máquinas a los humanos. Aquí hay un gran easter egg de Facebook. Resulta que muchas de las imágenes publicadas en esta red social y en Instagram (que también es de Zuckerberg) tienen una “versión en código”, lo que visualmente equivale a ver tu foto como te verías dentro de La Matrix. Así que están haciendo arte ASCII contigo.

Aún es un misterio la razón por la que Facebook tiene estas versiones en html de nuestras imágenes, aunque supongo que es alguna forma de análisis y/o organización de los millones de fotos que se suben diariamente a estas redes.

En la nota que comparto vienen las instrucciones de cómo buscar tus fotos en código ASCII. Aunque les advierto, son solo algunas de las fotos las que tienen esto (intenté varias veces sin éxito). Como sea, la gente de Facebook tampoco están inventando el hilo negro, así que si no lo logran -y no quieren quedar frustrados- aquí hay una de muchas otras páginas donde se pude generar el mismo efecto (www.ascii-me.com)

Después de todo, recuerden no hay nada que viva en digital que no sea simplemente código binario. Unos y ceros, no hay más.

Facebook has been creating ASCII art — that is, recreating your images out of text characters —out of your photos and anyone can find it. The feature was first spotted by Twitter user Mathias Bynens and has been confirmed by Mashable and others.

The photo above, taken from Mark Zuckerberg’s Instagram account, shows the original version of the image he posted with Instagram cofounder Kevin Systrom and the hidden ASCII version. As Bynens points out, you can find the alternative images by adding “.html” or “.txt” to the end of an image’s URL. The former creates a color image while the latter creates a black-and-white one. Actually grabbing the image, however, is not quite as straightforward as simply pulling up a photo on Instagram or Facebook’s website…

Illuminascii

Un grupo de desarrolladores llamados DDD Wares tuvo la brillante idea de hacer este juego de tiro (shooter), tipo RPG (Role Player Game, lo que significa en primera persona), y donde todo lo que te ataca y el mundo que exploras esta hecho a partir de código ASCII.

Es como ese “buen juego de Matrix” que nunca existió en los 2000′s…

What started out as a bit of cover art for German artist Novoline has taken on a life of its own and mutated into this ominous digital blob. You can almost feel it pulsating through the screen and worming its way into the depths of your psyche.

According to the video’s creator, Andreas Gysin, is technically a micro site for Novaline’s new 7" record release:

The animation is driven by a small JavaScript program and rendered on a html canvas; it consists of a grid of characters in motion. Each letter has a few attributes like colour, weight, position, rotation, etc. Some of those attributes get the values out of a small texture (a tiny off-screen canvas) which simplifies the animation and pattern creation process. To create the airport-display-like animations…string are composed out of repeated character sequences which then build patterns and rhythms…

ASCII Alizée

Cuando me encontré un foro llamado “Fantasías GIF de ayer y hoy” en el sitio jenesaispop.com -famosa comunidad española de blogs y noticias- pensé: algo bueno debe tener un nombre tan exquisito. No se si tuve razón pero me divertí a lo grande.

Ya sé que actualmente hay cientos de blogs donde la gente comparte imágenes animadas y videos, pero este lo hace desde 2006 -la prueba está en el tamaño de su colección, y en que tiene a la mismísima Alizée (cuyo salto a la fama data ya del lejano 2006)… y además en código ASCII. Para mí, eso convierte este foro en un veterano.

Entren un rato, seguro algo los hace reir…
