Una artista de Los Angeles llamada Illma Gore causó revuelo con esta pintura que ridiculiza a Donald Trump odiado por muchos, retratándolo con un peñe muuuy pequeñito. El recurso para callarla fué la censura (al menos en Facebook). Lo bueno es que en internet ya saben que lo prohibido es lo mas compartido…

Illma Gore, a Los Angeles-based feminist artist, was inspired to create this painting while reading about the presidential candidate. She thought of the slogan, “You can be a massive prick, despite what is in your pants,” and then used pastels to create imagery to represent her feelings. In the uncensored version, Trump is adorned with a micro-penis, also known in slang terms as a “baby dick.”Shortly after posting the picture to a secret feminist Facebook group, the image began proliferating on Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat, and receiving media attention from dozens of news outlets…

Mona Lisa holandesa y La Mona Lisa del norte (en holandés He meisje met de parel: La joven con la perla), es una de las obras maestras del pintor holandés Johannes Vermeer y, como el nombre implica, utiliza un pendiente de perla como punto focal. La pintura se encuentra en el Museo Mauritshuis en La Haya.

«The Composites»

Una forma interesante de hacer retratos.
En su serie “The Composites” el artista digital de Brian Joseph Davis utiliza software policiaco -el que se usa para la identificación de rostros de criminales-, pero para hacer retratos hablados de personajes de la literatura. Aquí hay un ejemplo de uno, mostrando cómo lucirían “Dr. Jekyll” y “Mr. Hyde” para un computadora, según la descripción de sus rasgos en el libro de Louis Stevenson…

Assuming the differences between Dr. Henry Jekyll and Mr. Edward Hyde are a matter of personality, carriage, and grooming, just how different do they look from one another? Using police sketch software, an artist envisions the faces of Jekyll and Hyde.

Brian Joseph Davis has been translating descriptions of fictional characters into portraits using law enforcement composite software for a while now, but this Jekyll and Hyde portrait pairing is especially interesting as it shows two personas who share a face but not an appearance…

Invisible man

Artist and camouflage extraordinaire Liu Bolin just opened a new exhibition at Galerie Paris-Beijing in Paris featuring a number of new works that depict the artist perfectly hidden amongst urban backdrops. Remarkably the effect is achieved without the use of special effects or Photoshop, rather Bolin is painstakingly painted head-to-toe by a group of assistants using photographs of the area behind him as a guide. “My intention was not to disappear in the environment but instead to let the environment take possession of me”, he says. Bolin’s intent is not to simply hide himself as an individual but suggests the works are statement regarding damage caused by economic and urban development. The show runs through March 10th. Angrywhistler

Aquí hay un buen blog de arte que seguir (dentro de la misma comunidad de tumblr), con unas pinturas espectaculares, la mayoría de retratos. No se mucho aún, la pagina tiene el header “Tin Foil Sandwich”, pero el usuario y el URL del tumblr son de un tal Angrywhistler".

Seguramente es uno de esos artistas “anónimos”, de los que hay tantos actualmente en la web. En fin, alguna vez leí que dar mas importancia al artista que a su obra es pecar de “vedetismo”. Por ello, aún sin saber, recomiendo darle un follow…

Symmetrical faces

No conocía a este artista australiano (al que definiría como un fotógrafo conceptual), pero su trabajo es excelente. Utiliza la fotografía como salida para hacer piezas llenas de significado y reflexión, como estas series de retratos de personas con caras totalmente asimétricas. Chequen su sitio, tiene otras cosas muy buenas…
